“Mention the Bridport Prize and the eyes of writers everywhere light up. It’s not just the money – though that’s not to be sneezed at – it’s a prize really worth fighting for in terms of prestige and genuine literary accomplishment.” Fay Weldon, patron

Fay Weldon’s comment sums up the reputation of the prize and by association the sense of occasion on the day. Many thousands of entries are received from over 80 countries and it was a pleasure to be part of a day celebrating creativity and imagination.Carol Ann Duffy award Terry Jones from Carlisle the first prize for his poem ‘Endowments’ and AL Kennedy award by Kitty Aldridge from London, for the first prize for a short story for ‘Arrivederci Les’.

Bringing together sculpture, instillation and drawing spanning five years the work explores moments of process and change that lay beneath the surface.

Many of the sculptures are small and intricate, I wanted to capture the fine detail. The drawing and instillation is larger scale and I wanted to bring all of the work together to illustrate what the varying elements added to the exhibition as a whole.

These images capture the mood of the exhibition as well as the details. The photographs can be used for documentation, reproduction and promotional purposes.

The project offers training in all aspects of radio making and trainees are guided from the basics of turning a recorder on, to presenting skills, to the achievement of sharing a completed programme. Workshops include song writing with Billy Bragg and writing drama for radio with Paul Dodson.

Learning co-ordinator Kate Wilson commissioned me to take a set of images that capture mix of participants and the excitement of live radio in the community.

The images taken for a Natwest Community Fund bid. A successful application will mean that the project can be developed. It’s a valuable resource for the community – it will certainly offer a unique insight into local life.

The festival is a celebration of the small, local food businesses who continue to thrive. I went to the main event with my camera and photographed the carnival atmosphere. From local Chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall preparing a recipes to visitors trying something new. The wet weather was a talking point as people ran to the cider tent to listen to live music. I finished the afternoon with a red pepper and goats cheese pizza, organic chocolate brownie and a cup of fresh coffee.

It was a bright day and the couple had an extra warm welcome from the staff as the first couple to be married in the new hotel. I stayed from the vows until the last dance capturing the couple, family and friends as they celebrated in the wonderful setting.

The care put into the fine detail of weddings is always a marvel. The personal touches, alongside unique moments are what make a day fantastic. I always take my time to make sure I get the full picture, from the flowers, to rooms overflowing with merriment.

There was an interesting mix of people from pseudo naked youngsters, witches, druids, old school spiritualists,to modern new agers.  I would say it had a festival feel, much like Glastonbury which is understandable as the festival was just about to start and many were stopping off for the night on the way. I stayed awake until sunrise though a combination of coffee, beating on stone skin drums, dancing, chanting and and a failed attempt at sleeping in the car!

It was great to be part of the event and an experiences i would recommend to anyone how has the slightest bit of interest as to what its all about. Meditation and cider make a pretty good cocktail.

Christina has done a great job with the renovation, creating a clean contempory feel to the space so i set about capturing the cottage with this in mind. I picked compositions that felt right with the rooms and used lighting to emphasize features which I felt should be highlighted.

I was most fascinated during a chat in the kitchen when Christina said, I was standing in what used to be the garage. As she pointed to the large windows I realised, they were the doors!

The event saw his son Darius Brubeck on piano and Frank Griffith on sax and clarinet, Matt Ridley on bass and Wesley Gibbens on drums.

As you will see from my past music posts this is a new genre for me and at 10 minutes per track the three song rule didn’t apply! The venue had great acoustics and the audience clearly enjoyed the Darius’ take on his father’s most well known songs.
Dave Brubeck’s 1959 album ‘Time Out’ is one of the great jazz albums of all time and the track ‘Take Five’ was instantly recognizable to me.

I was expecting a dimly lit stage but my surprise the lighting was perfectly suited to my F2.8 lens, thanks to Jonty Grey who did a great job with the lighting.

Bridport audiences to benefit from a diverse program of events and I look forward to shooting more performances.

I wanted to make a visual link between the hospitality that keeps people coming back as well as showing of the buildings unique features. The building was fresh and modern with a welcoming feel. I used contemporary lighting skills to emphasise the bright airy rooms.

These images will be used on their website and in promotional material to illustrate that the Number Seven Guest House provides a quality experience. It’s a great place to return to after walking the Cleveland Way or visiting Whitby Abbey. 

Ponds Forge has some of the very best diving facilities in the world and a 50m swimming pool.  It was the obvious location for an event showcasing the world’s best divers – including Olympic, World and Commonwealth champions Tom Daley and Peter Waterfield.

When I arrived at 7pm the venue was how you would usually expect to find it – full of local people taking advantage of the facilities. Slowly they left the pool and work began on a complete transformation that would see the diving area made over into a stage set where crowds would watch the competition in style. Vinyl flooring was laid, banners were put up, a huge screen was fitted and an area designated for the BBC to film the action.

Of course all of this took a long time and around 5am I was nodding off. I was roused ten minutes later by the sound of competitors arriving to warm up – swimming up and down the pool for an hour! It certainly gave me an insight into the commitment that it takes to be a world class athlete.

The FINA Diving world series attracts some of the best divers from around the world including China, Russia, USA and Europe. As the TV went up divers took the board and I witnessed some amazing feats.

This was the fourth time the competition returned to Sheffield thanks to partnerships between British Swimming, UK Sport, Sheffield City Council, Welcome To Yorkshire and venue operator Sheffield International Venues (SIV).

Helen Broadbent, general manager at Ponds Forge, said: “The event was watched by sell-out crowds on both days and viewable by the BBC [...] It was also a great way to give British athletes, including our GB divers Ben Swain and Nick Robinson-Baker, the opportunity for some valuable experience of competing on home soil in preparation for the 2012 Olympics, which are less than 18 months away.”
