Last autumn I was asked to photograph the award ceremony for the international writing competition The Bridport Prize. I was there with my camera as Carol Ann Duffy and AL Kennedy announced the 2001 winners.

Fay Weldon’s comment sums up the reputation of the prize and by association the sense of occasion on the day. Many thousands of entries are received from over 80 countries and it was a pleasure to be part of a day celebrating creativity and imagination.Carol Ann Duffy award Terry Jones from Carlisle the first prize for his poem ‘Endowments’ and AL Kennedy award by Kitty Aldridge from London, for the first prize for a short story for ‘Arrivederci Les’.
